Los Angeles, United States - December 05, 2025 12/05/2025 01:05 pm GMT-0800 SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – A fully loaded tanker truck carrying 2,700 gallons of gasoline overturned Friday morning outside a Denny’s restaurant, forcing widespread closures and triggering a major hazmat response that stretched into a fourth hour. The crash was reported at 9:24 a.m. as the truck attempted to enter the northbound lanes of State Route 14 from Sand Canyon Road. According to officials at the scene, the driver tried a tight left turn at an excessive speed, causing the tanker to roll and land on its fuel-filled compartments. Firefighters and members of the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Hazmat task force worked methodically to offload fuel from the damaged, leaking tanker — a process that has significantly slowed the reopening of the area. Out of caution, authorities shut down a nearby gas station and several surrounding businesses, including a busy In-N-Out Burger, as crews worked inches from thousands of gallons of spilled or threatened gasoline. Traffic in the area was heavily impacted, with access to SR-14 limited and Sand Canyon Road partially blocked. As of 1:30 p.m., the incident remained active, and the shutdowns remained in place as crews continued their delicate work. Authorities did not say when the area would reopen.
