Body of teenage boy killed by Israeli forces carried through streets of Bethlehem before funeral
Palestinians carried the body of a teenage boy killed by Israeli security forces, during his funeral in Bethlehem on Saturday 28 May.
There were conflicting reports on whether the victim, Zaid Ghuneim, was 14 or 15 years old.
Shops and businesses remained shuttered in the West Bank city after the killing on Friday.
Local news agency WAFA reported that local leaders had called for a general strike until after Ghuneim is laid to rest in the town of al-Khader, south of Bethlehem, later in the afternoon.
Ghuneim was shot in the back and neck and killed, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Eyewitnesses said Ghuneim was surprised by the presence of Israeli occupation soldiers in the town, and that as he tried to hide in a parking garage he was shot.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh condemned the killing of Ghuneim, describing it as “a premeditated execution,” and "an act of terrorism,” calling on the international community to put into force international resolutions to boycott Israel and ensure that the perpetrators do not go unpunished.
Israeli forces have killed five Palestinian minors in May alone and 13 since the start of the year.
