The UK’s first brass memorial plaque for a Holocaust victim has been installed in the heart of Soho by the artist Gunter Demnig on May 30.

The stone commemorates Ada von Dantzig a young Dutch-Jewish paintings conservator who came to the UK in the 1930s to work, but later rejoined her family in the Netherlands.

She was then murdered along with her family at Auschwitz in 1943.

The stone commemorates Ada van Dantzig, a young Dutch-Jewish paintings conservator who came to theUK in the 1930s to work, but later re-joined her family in the Netherlands.  She was murdered in Auschwitz on 14 February 1943.

The world’s largest decentralised memorial art installation, the Stolperstein project has placed over 100,000 stones in 26 countries. Created by German artist Gunter Demnig 25 years ago, these small brass plaques are placed in the pavement in front of the homes or places of work of victims of Nazi persecution.
