This is the amusing moment four shoppers in Cameroon encountered an escalator for the first time.

Footage captured in Douala on May 21 by Sandra Rousselle Bobda Massu shows four women attempting to walk up the down escalator.

A perplexed onlooker can be heard shouting "come down" while the filmer laughs.

Although moving stairs are common in cities in Cameroon, people in the vast rural areas of the country can easily never encounter one in their daily lives.

Hilarity ensued when three innocent, non-tech savvy ladies in Cameroon tried to go upstairs by using the wrong side of the escalator.

When you watch the video and look at the subjects' faces, you'll instantly figure out that they'd never seen "moving stairs" before.
