California Drought - Very Low Reservoir Water Level (Castaic Lake) V18654

Buy video

California's Castaic Lake, a drinking water reservoir about 40 miles north of Los Angeles, CA, suffers from very low water level due to extreme drought conditions. This slow panning footage shows 80 to 100 feet of exposed shoreline and several islands which would normally be submerged. Castaic Lake is the terminus of the California Aquaduct system's western branch, and supplies water to a large portion of the northwestern Santa Clarita Valley, including the town of Castaic. This lake, in union with another nearby reservoir (Pyramid Lake) is also part of a hydro-electric generating system which supplies power to the Los Angeles County power grid.
