This is the incredible moment a man rescues a dog submerged in dirt up to her neck - before discovering her puppies were also buried alive beside her. In video footage, Soner Büyümez - a veterinarian working on a farm in central Türkiye - can be seen frantically removing a pile of soil a dog and her puppies were buried under. Büyümez discovered the dog after hearing a faint sound in the distance whilst working on the farm. “I immediately ran to the spot,” Büyümez told The Dodo. “There had been a landslide. I saw a dog was trapped in the ground. Only her head remained [above the soil].” The dog was in distress. But, as Büyümez would soon come to learn, she wasn’t concerned for her life alone. “When I first saw her, it was very upsetting,” Büyümez said. Quickly fetching a shovel, Büyümez began to dig when he then discovered the mother's puppies completely submerged under the dirt. The dogs had become buried when a makeshift home they made for themselves had collapsed. Along with a co-worker, Büyümez managed to pull the mother out before using his bare hands to then focus on trying to save her puppies. Seven puppies were saved but sadly one had already died. The rescue took a total of two hours. The canine family are now being looked after on the farm by Büyümez and his co-workers, but they soon hope someone will give the family a home.
