A brush fire broke out near Castaic about 40 miles northwest of Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon (August 31). This came as Southern California experiences record temperatures.

By 7 p.m., the fire had grown to about 3,000 acres. The flame prompted evacuations and shut down all lanes of the 5 Freeway.
