A fire exploded to about 2,000 acres in Washington state near the Oregon border yesterday (October 16). The Nakia Creek fire broke out on October 9 on Larch Mountain.

The blaze prompted the expansion of the Level 3 mandatory evacuation zone covering 2,903 residences in the rural outskirts of Camas and Washougal.

The fire had broken through containment lines and was aggressively moving to the west and southwest.

Containment is currently at 5%.
