An angry passenger on Manchester's tram network provoked an anger-filled argument between himself and Metro staff.

Rachel Bird got on the service that ran on August 16th, when she was quickly drawn to the attention of a problematic passenger that was shouting and swearing whilst on his phone.

Parents were with their children who tried to calm the male's aggression which only engaged the anger further, resulting in a group of lads trying to intervene creating a tense stand-off.

Metro security fortunately got on the service at the next stop and confronted the man's behaviour which angered him even more.

As security were preparing to remove the individual at the next stop, he lurched out in an outburst which had tram staff have to restrain him from causing any further damage.

The service arrived at the next stop and the Metro staff were able to remove the man whilst he continued his albeit aggressive but incoherent ranting.

Rachel said: "It was clear that something wasn’t right as he was shouting and swearing into his phone.

"There were children on board that were getting upset and it’s actually their mother who can be seen trying to talk to him in the beginning of the video.

"As we got to Deansgate Station he had started to get more aggressive and some lads started to intervene.

"As we pulled into St Peter’s Square the lads got off and fortunately there was a lot of Metro security on the other side of the platform.

"As you can see from the beginning of the video the chap is still initially ranting on his phone and then diverts his anger towards Metro security.

"I think the intention was to remove him from the tram as one of the security came up to get the medical kit for gloves.

"As you can see the chap did not want them to touch him saying that he had 'been raped and hated men'.

"During one of these outbursts he lurched forward and that is when things escalated so he ended up being restrained.

"On the whole I felt the Metro guards kept their cool in the circumstances.

"I didn’t feel frightened by him on his phone but when the lads started getting involved, albeit trying to quieten him, I felt it could escalate and we would be in the thick of it trapped at the front."
