Inspiring pensioner builds rally track for RC scale cars to continue passion for driving after accident
An inspiring pensioner built a rally track for RC scale cars to continue his passion for driving after an accident left him unable to get behind the wheel.
Prayoon Sukkaew, 63, or simply uncle Kung to friends, damaged his spine in a motorcycle accident in Bangkok, Thailand, about seven years ago.
He was unable to enjoy his one love - the thrill of the open road and wind rustling through his hair.
But instead of being disheartened, the motoring enthusiast turned to smaller RC (remote-controlled) cars.
Footage shows uncle Kung with his friends, young lads, and little boys enjoying their hobbies of driving their RC cars along the dirt track.
Prayoon, who does not charge visitors for using his RC course, said: ‘I opened the race track Scale Bang Khae after the accident. These radio-controlled cars are just like the regular cars but smaller.'
He added that RC cars are smaller off-road vehicles with a scale of 1/10.
He said: ‘Scale model cars have the same details as the original. There are various brands and models. I tried RC helicopters, and it felt dangerous.
‘And only started liking RC cars when I found that I could play them with my grandchildren. It's good to bond with your children and have fun with the family.'
Before getting into RC cars, he rode a motorcycle but figured into an accident that damaged his intervertebral disc. He could not ride the motorcycle again, so he became an RC car enthusiast.
Prayoon talked about his passion, he said: ‘It's awesome how the cars can run and climb different holes and hills.
‘It can go up and it looks good in pictures. So I made this field so people can come to play for free.
‘The field area is slowly expanding and I added different decorations.'
He urged other drivers to give it a try. He said: ‘For people who have never tried playing, you are welcome to join us. Everybody is welcome.'
