Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn speaks outside Islington Town Hall in London during a rally in support of teachers’ strike.

According to the trade union NEU, 200,000 members will join the three days of action this week. Many schools in London, Wales and the south of England will be closed.

In this video, Corbyn says: "Over the past 10 years, the average public sector pay rise has been 2.2%. The richest 10% are 230 wealthier than the poorest 10%".

"In the past year, the number of children living in poverty has doubled to 4 million and we have an inflation rate that is running well over 10%. And then, Rishi Sunak and his government, claim that your salary increase would raise inflation".

He calls on the UK government to solve the country's inflationary environment by taking energy companies, water companies, mail, and rail into public ownership.
