The beginning of the celebration of the day of silence in Bali - Nyepi holiday
Nyepi is a unique festival celebrated on the Indonesian island of Bali. The festival, which is also known as the 'Day of Silence', falls on the Hindu New Year and is observed by the Balinese people as a day of self-reflection, meditation, and fasting.
Nyepi is a day of complete silence on the island, which means that all shops, airports, and even the streets are closed. People are not allowed to leave their homes, talk, or make any noise during the day. The purpose of this day is to cleanse the island of evil spirits, and it is believed that the silence will help to achieve this.
Before the day of Nyepi, there are many ceremonies and rituals that take place on the island. The most popular of these is the Ogoh-Ogoh parade, which involves the creation of huge demonic statues made of bamboo and paper. These statues are paraded through the streets, and then burned at the end of the night.
