The Telok Kemang Observatory in Port Dickson, Malaysia, has reported that the new moon of Syawal was not visible during their official observation due to not meeting Imkanur Rukyah criteria.
The sighting of the Syawal crescent was conducted between 7.10pm to 7.29pm last night but the cloudy sky and rain made it challenging to spot the new moon. However, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, the Keeper of the Great Seal of the Kings, has announced that Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Aidilfitri on Saturday (April 22, 2023).
This decision was made after conducting moon sighting activity at 29 locations throughout the country to determine the date of 1 Syawal.
