[Note: partially no sound]
A loggerhead turtle about 15 years old was released in the waters of Tanjung Tuan, Port Dickson to enable research on turtles to be carried out, especially in the coastal waters of Port Dickson tourism.
The turtle was named Puteri Tanjung by the Linggi State Assembly Member, Datuk Mohd. Faizal Ramli is a donation from the Turtle and Marine Ecosystem Center (TUMEC), Rantau Abang, Terengganu.
Director of Fisheries Negeri Sembilan, Kasim Tawe said, his side was pleased when TUMEC carried out the first study involving turtle habitats in the waters of Port Dickson and nearby for the first time by releasing the satellite turtle.
"These turtles are equipped with Platform Terminal Transmitters (PTTs) which are one of the types of satellite transmitters used in turtle migration research and installed on the turtle's carapace or shell.
"The installed PTT can last up to two to three years before the battery runs out or as long as it is not removed," he said at the Port Dickson Marine Biodiversity Conservation Program.
In the program, as many as 50 fingerlings of the Amphiprion ocellaris species that are four to six months old in the F3 generation and 1,500 sea bass fry were also released.
In the meantime, Kasim said, the data obtained from the PTTs will help in understanding, planning and implementing an effective conservation strategy, especially on Port Dickson beach which has recorded 15 turtle landings to lay their eggs this year.
According to him, information on the movement of turtles helps in establishing important conservation areas and protecting habitats for endangered species.
