Hundreds of homeless people, movements in defense of the rights of this population and collectors of recyclable materials gathered in front of the São Paulo City Hall, in the central region of the city, this Friday (12), in protest against the removal of tents, carts and belongings of the homeless. The denouncements are part of the manifest letter, released during the protest, under the title “If the tent is not home, housing now”. The name refers to a statement by the mayor who, to justify the removal of improvised housing, claimed that the street was not an address and the tent was not a home. The explanation was contested by social movements, which questioned the lack of shelter with permanent housing for the homeless.
