The Richard Mille Cup. A new Classic pre 1939 racing sail yacht invitational regatta. Spectacular authentic and restored sail boats at Falmouth Cornwall UK
Luxury watchmaker Richard Mille creates a new yachting series leading to an award of a metre high silver trophy by Royal jeweller Garrards of London. The inaugural Richard Mille cup is initially in Falmouth Cornwall on the 1oth to the 14th June 2023. After daily racing in Falmouth Bay the yachts will speed across the English Channel to Le Havre on the 14th June for the next leg of the event. Over 30 boats are taking part with many magnificent four mast schooners in the line up. Hosted by the Royal Cornwall Yacht club in Falmouth for the first leg. Authenticity is the watchword of the event. The ethos is to recapture the spirit of the pre war British racing circuit. All the boats are restored or preserved as close to the original specification. An interesting historical fact is that many Cornish boatmen were recruited to crew the huge J class yachts racing for the Americas cup before the Second World War. Their toughness and sea skill being highly applicable.
The magnificent boats in seen full sail are as magnificent today as in their heyday a century ago. .For owners of these huge crewed craft, J class rowing and racing was once humorously summed up as the equivalent of standing in the shower and tearing up £50 pound notes.
