A group of men allegedly attempted to free detainees by firing mortars and setting fire to the public highway, in front of the Fresnes penitentiary centre, located in the town of Fresnes, Val-de-Marne, south of Paris, yesterday night (June 29) at approximately 1 am local time.

The mortars and fires triggered an alarm heard in the surrounding towns.

Several minutes later, dozens of hooded individuals attempted to break into the penitentiary to get prisoners to escape, according to reports.
