New Zealand's two-week winter school holidays kicked off Saturday with a bang. The annual fireworks display was staged off the New Brighton Pier in Christchurch of the South Island.
This year, about 35,000 people watched the fireworks, which lasted about 15 minutes.
Plenty of pre-fireworks entertainment with live music and food vendors brought many people together over the chilly winter weekend.
