The 14th Chinese medical team to Papua New Guinea (PNG) has officially launched the country's first standardized breast disease clinic at Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) on Monday, marking a new phase of greater precision and public-welfare collaboration in China-PNG healthcare cooperation.
Breast cancer remains a critical health challenge in PNG, where late diagnoses and limited treatment options result in a five-year survival rate of less than 40 percent.
The new clinic, equipped with advanced diagnostic tools donated by China, integrates screening, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Through a unique training model, the Chinese team has also helped PNG train its first group of specialized breast healthcare professionals and introduced tailored treatment guidelines. This initiative, part of the China-led "Health Silk Road," enhances local medical capacity and brings lasting benefits to women's health in the Pacific.
