A resident in Colorado Springs captured an impressive timelapse of a paper wasp emerging from its silk egg chamber.

Newsflare user Cameratrapsue said: "A timelapse of a paper wasp larva spinning the silk top to its egg chamber. Once sealed in it will pupate over the next 8 days before emerging as an adult paper wasp.

"This is a paper wasp nest in suburban Colorado Springs, I saw a wasp flying around, going under the eaves of my garden shed so I looked to see what it was doing.

"It was already quite far along in building the nest by itself so I decided to put a camera on it and learn more about them as the nest progressed and the eggs hatched. I'm using a wifi security camera so I can watch the nest remotely and not interfere with them or stress them out.

"I run the camera every day during daylight hours and record the day to the camera SD card then I review the footage. I am also able to watch the nest live, via the camera, on my computer and start recording if I see something interesting going on.

"Paper wasps are common in Colorado Springs. I will continue watching this nest via the camera until it is abandoned by the wasps."
