Guarulhos is one of the 39 municipalities that make up Greater São Paulo, the most economically important region in Brazil. It is the second city with the largest population in the State of São Paulo, with 1,379,182 inhabitants according to IBGE estimates (July - 2019).

With a GDP of R$55,743,650 billion (2019), the municipality is the 12th richest in Brazil.

Thanks to several factors such as occupation, public policies and location, Guarulhos has become a strategic distribution and logistics center. Located at the confluence of roads that connect São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, it also houses the largest airport in Latin America, where the largest cargo terminal in the country is located.
