SOUNDBITE (English): ANDREA WOJNAR, Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund for India
"We actually see it not as a challenge for India, but as a richness of India. This continuing population growth, we know, will stabilize in a matter of a few decades. So there is no concern about an explosion or difficulty in that way. What we are more interested in is not about the numbers, but making sure about the quality of each and every one of those 1.4 billion people today. What is the quality of their life? Are they able to unlock the full human potential? "
The Indian government is actively implementing various measures to address population concerns. These include promoting family planning and reproductive health services, advocating for the education and empowerment of women, and raising awareness about the benefits of smaller family sizes.
