STORYLINE:

Due to the impact of Typhoon Doksuri, torrential rains battered Beijing and its surrounding regions, causing anomalous floods in several districts of the capital city and several localities in Hebei Province in the past few days.

Zhuozhou City is one of the worst-affected areas in Hebei.

Some local households had to relocate to safer places due to the floods.

At a temporary flood relief center set up in a school, flood-affected residents have been receiving essential supplies.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): ZHEN QING, Principal, Zhuozhou No. 3 Middle School
"The shelter took in two batches of flood-affected residents. The first batch consisted of 1,500 to 2,000 people. Then another 3,000 people arrived here."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): ZHANG YUBAO, Official, Health department in Zhuozhou City
"For this resettlement site, we have assigned a medical team consisting of 26 personnel. The team is equipped with essential monitoring and diagnostic equipment, as well as an ample supply of medications."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): WANG JIANHENG, Villager, Xiangsan Village, Zhuozhou City
"We have access to water and electricity, and the presence of air conditioning is particularly beneficial as it keeps us cool even during scorching days. And we receive three meals a day. With these provisions, our family of six can rest assured that our basic needs are met."

As the water level of the waterlogged areas declines significantly, residents have begun to return home.

Currently, they are busy dredging and disinfecting the surrounding environment to prevent possible disease spread.

In Beijing's Fangshan District, some villagers at resettlement sites have also returned home.

SOUNDBITE 4 (Chinese): YU SUQING, Villager, Koutou Village, Fangshan District, Beijing
"I've been away from home for a while. The rain has stopped, so I want to go home."

SOUNDBITE 5 (Chinese): WANG YULIAN, Villager, Koutou Village, Fangshan District, Beijing
"It's quite nice here. The government has taken comprehensive care of everyone's needs, providing good food and ensuring comfortable accommodations for all of us."

State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company said on Sunday that nearly 60 percent of the 270 flood-affected villages in Beijing have restored power supply.

Meanwhile, in Zhuozhou, two temporary water supply stations have produced 700 tonnes of water, helping alleviate the water usage difficulties of the locals.

As of 7 a.m. Sunday, 93 residential communities in Zhuozhou had resumed electricity supply, and over 90 percent of the communities in the city proper had restored power supply.
