Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in central China's Hubei Province celebrated the 40th anniversary of its founding on Saturday.

Standing as the only ethnic minority autonomous prefecture in Hubei Province, the autonomous prefecture has witnessed rapid economic development, leading to an improved quality of life for its residents.

"I'm a native of Enshi. There used to be lots of undeveloped areas and some abandoned factories, but now you can see that beautiful buildings were built everywhere, some of them are fascinating with traditional style. As a native, I'm really happy to see such changes."

Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture's gross domestic product (GDP) has soared from 914 million yuan (about 125.5 million U.S. dollars) in 1983 to 140.22 billion yuan (about 19.26 billion U.S. dollars) in 2022.
