Scythers Mow Wildflowers in Centuries-old Tradition in Cambridge, UK
This footage was filmed and produced 22 September 2023.
Four female scythers - Trinity gardeners Dr Jo Miles and Joharna Richards, Trinity Fellow Professor Marian Holness, and Head Gardener at Clare College Kate Hargreaves - mow wildflowers in the Meadow Circle at the nineteenth-century New Court of Trinity College in Cambridge. Mowing, or scything, is a centuries-old tradition believed to have been practised at Trinity before lawnmowers.
