Protesters rallied at the red carpet opening night of the BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday (October 4) to demand better for film and TV crews.

The grassroots protest, Crew Call For Change, is not against the festival, but to raise awareness of how the writers and actors strikes in the US have affected UK crews.

The event page for the protest stated, "We're here, we're suffering and we demand to be seen and heard" and explained, "The domestic workforce is not on strike, but in solidarity we are entirely subject to those disputes, many contracts are suspended indefinitely", adding that, "75% of the workforce are out of work" and that "80%" were "impacted directly by the US disputes."

Placards held by protesters above the red carpet at the Royal Festival Hall in central London included, "AMPTP! UK cast and crew are the backbone of this industry", "we make your films" and "support the strikes but don't forget the crew".

The latest from Hollywood is the WGA and AMPTP agreed a tentative deal last month, and SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP plan to resume negotiations today (Wednesday).
