Israeli soldiers shot dead three Palestinians during an alleged attack on a checkpoint south of Jerusalem on Thursday 16 November.

Police said they fired at the checkpoint on a road between Jerusalem and the West Bank city of Bethlehem, wounding six members of the security forces before the assailants were killed.

Israeli police said that it looked as though the suspects -- found with extensive weaponry -- had been planing a much bigger attack.
