Germany: Germans rally to urge developed countries to combat climate change promptly
Storyline: As the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) is underway in Brazil, people in Germany held rallies in about 75 cities across the country on Friday, calling on developed countries, including Germany, to take immediate actions to combat climate change. COP30, which kicked off on Nov 10 in Brazil's Amazonian city of Belem, has brought together representatives from nearly 200 countries and regions to focus on the efforts needed to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius, the presentation of new national action plans known as the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and the progress on the finance pledges made at COP29. About 2,000 people took to the streets in Berlin on Friday, according to organizers and local police. German environmental advocates said that developed countries bear a historical, legal, and moral responsibility for climate change. They also argued that nations like Germany have an obligation to support climate actions in developing countries by providing financial aid. "I think it is very important that developed countries like Germany, which have benefited from exploitation for a very long time, should stand out and provide the necessary funds. Because what's absolutely clear is that the science is unequivocal and the responsibilities are clear, but nothing is happening. That's why we need to take actions now, including at COP30 in Brazil," said an activist in Berlin. Also on Friday, roughly 1,000 people in Hamburg, and 3,000 in Cologne took part in the demonstrations. Shotlist: Berlin, Germany - Nov 14, 2025: 1. Various of rally for climate action in progress 2.
