Guardia Civil and Firefighters Save Collapsed Hiker in Cordoba, Spain
This footage was filmed and produced 21 January 2024.
In a collaborative effort, the Guardia Civil and Priego de Cordoba firefighters successfully rescued a hiker who had fainted on La Tinosa, the highest peak in the province of Cordoba at 1,570 meters.
The Guardia Civil received a distress call around 4:30 PM on the 21st of January, reporting a hiker's collapse near El Pico la Tinosa. The injured person, part of a group of four, was stranded in a steep and inaccessible area. Patrols, aerial, and mountain services from the Guardia Civil, along with Priego de Cordoba Firefighters, rushed to the scene.
The challenging terrain prevented the group from moving the injured hiker, requiring Guardia Civil and firefighter personnel to reach the location on foot. After locating the group, a successful rescue operation ensued, with the injured person airlifted to Priego de Cordoba for medical attention.
La Tinosa Peak, situated in the Sierra Horconera, is the highest point in the province, part of the Natural Park of the Subbetic Sierras, a UNESCO Global Geopark, and a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA). The linear ascent, totaling about ten kilometers, typically takes around five and a half hours, depending on rest breaks.
