U.N. Report Paints Gloomy Picture For Gaza Economy

The conflict in Gaza has led to an unparalleled degree of economic devastation, according to a report from the U.N. trade and development body UNCTAD released on Wednesday. Last year witnessed a staggering $655 million reduction in Gaza's annual GDP, equivalent to a 24% decline, the report said. The report suggests that even if hostilities were to cease immediately, and reconstruction efforts commenced promptly while maintaining the growth trend from 2007 to 2022, it would take until the year 2092 to fully restore GDP levels to those of 2022.
