Tensions ran high this Monday, March 11, morning as around a hundred farmers from the Rural Coordination group converged on the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Council in Bordeaux. The farmers were determined to disrupt the plenary session and challenge the council's president, Alain Rousset. Clashes broke out between the farmers and the police as the farmers attempted to gain access to the council building during the opening of the session.

The farmers, led by Serge Bousquet-Cassagne, president of the Lot-et-Garonne chamber of agriculture, were adamant that their voices be heard by all elected officials. In a show of defiance, a delegation of fifteen farmers managed to enter the council building and address the regional councilors, including President Alain Rousset. The farmers voiced their grievances regarding delayed payments of agricultural aid and criticized the council's handling of agricultural policies.

Despite being initially applauded by some lawmakers upon their entry, tensions rose as the farmers accused the council of neglecting their needs and perpetuating policies that were detrimental to the agricultural community. President Rousset tried to calm the situation by urging for a dialogue and discussion process to address the farmers' concerns.

Outside the council building, the farmers had earlier staged a protest by dumping tires, tarps, and slurry as a symbolic representation of their frustration. The protest, which aimed to disrupt the plenary session scheduled for two days, was in response to the farmers' dissatisfaction with the regional council's agricultural policies, particularly in relation to water management and agricultural financing.

While the farmers' actions led to some disruptions in transportation services, the council assured that the session would continue as planned. The farmers, who have been vocal about their demands for increased budget allocations to the agriculture sector, criticize the council for what they perceive as a mismanagement of agricultural aid that disproportionately benefits some farmers over others.
