This footage was filmed and produced 16 March 2024.

The video shows two engaged citizens participating in the Riposte Alimentaire campaign disrupted the Saut Hermes 2024, an international show jumping competition held at the Grand Palais Ephemere. Louane and Arnaud unfurled a banner at the base of an obstacle, which read: "1913 EPSOM - 2024 HERMES: RESISTING IS VITAL".

Through this action, Riposte Alimentaire pays tribute to the British suffragette Emily Davison, who died from her injuries a few days after her action at the 1913 Epsom Derby, a prestigious horse race. She had stood in front of King George V's horse to amplify the voice of politically excluded women at the time. 2000 suffragettes attended her funeral.

As an advocate for women's rights, she left a mark in history with her courageous acts of resistance. She participated in numerous radical actions, including hunger strikes, demonstrations, and civil disobedience, to promote gender equality and women's suffrage. She was imprisoned nine times throughout her life.

The actions of suffragettes, with Emily Davison as an iconic figure, eventually bore fruit. Women over 30 were granted the right to vote in the UK in 1918, which was later extended to women over 21 in 1928.

The legacy of suffragettes is well preserved. On March 4th, thanks to the efforts and tenacity of many female politicians and activists, a historic vote took place in France: with 780 votes in favor and 72 against, the parliament overwhelmingly approved the inclusion of abortion rights in the constitution.

The example of suffragettes reminds us that civil disobedience actions are crucial to achieving social progress. They help shift the Overton window, making other, less radical actions more accepted by society and thereby more likely to succeed. Less than 100 years ago, women did not have the right to vote in France, a right that was achieved in 1944 and is now unquestioned.

Proud of this legacy, Riposte Alimentaire believes that similar actions are essential today in the face of the climate crisis. The transition to a sustainable agricultural model and access to healthy food for all are the reasons behind these actions.

In this regard, Riposte Alimentaire's demand is to establish a Sustainable Food Social Security.

This demand, inspired by the Security Social of Alimentation collective, is based on 3 pillars:

Universality: Each individual, regardless of their social status, will receive a food security card worth €150 per month.

Democratic convention: This card will allow the purchase of democratically selected and environmentally and agriculturally conscious products, chosen by citizen assemblies informed about ecological and agricultural issues.

Funding through contributions: Similar to social security, funding will be done through a contribution system to ensure fair distribution.

Riposte Alimentaire calls on the state to finance local experiments to show the viability of this system and to demonstrate its potential for national implementation.

The right to food is recognized internationally. Riposte Alimentaire aims to uphold it in practice for universal, democratic, and sustainable nutrition.
