The death toll from the cold lava floods in West Sumatra province of Indonesia has risen to 58, with 35 people still missing, local disaster agency said on Wednesday.

The cold lava floods on Saturday night, which were triggered by rains, destroyed houses, buildings, roads and other infrastructure facilities in the regencies of Tanah Datar, Agam and Pariaman, and Padang Panjang town.

A China Global Television Network (CGTN) correspondent on Wednesday went to a crash site in Kaum Lima Sub-regency, in the Tanah Datar Regency and talked with locals about the incident.

According to the on-the-spot report, a mosque was partially destroyed and homes crumbled in bad condition, and store owners cleaning up mud and debris from their stores say that the destruction has cost them greatly.

"We are negatively affected. I can't even salvage 5 percent of my goods. I estimate 95 percent of goods are destroyed - we can't resell the products. I may not do business again," a store owner said.

"This is what my store looks like after debris and mud are removed. Mud entered my store, 50 centimeters tall. Some of my goods survived, some were destroyed, taken in by the floods," another shop owner told CGTN.

Clean-up and rescue operations have been on-going for days, working in pitch darkness after sundown due to the lack of running electricity in the area.

Authorities said that the number of casualties might grow as the search for the missing went on.
