SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): TSERING DONDRUP, Deputy director of archives management department, Archives of Xizang Autonomous Region
"A piece of archive is a piece of history. A piece of archive is a legacy of history. I'm Tsering Dondrup. My job primarily involves organizing and managing historical archives."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Tibetan): TSERING DONDRUP, Deputy director of archives management department, Archives of Xizang Autonomous Region
"This needs to be handled carefully because it's fragile. Further damages could be caused if they are not dealt with properly."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): TSERING DONDRUP, Deputy director of archives management department, Archives of Xizang Autonomous Region
"The folded paper is not suitable for long-time preservation, so my colleagues are now dusting and flattening the paper. Then we'll hand over the damaged archives to the restoration department. Once the preservation is completed, we will scan and digitize the archives. The original archives will be better protected after digitalization."

SOUNDBITE 4 (Chinese): TSERING DONDRUP, Deputy director of archives management department, Archives of Xizang Autonomous Region
"It's a major event for our institution to apply for the registration of Chinese Archives and Documentary Heritage and UNESCO's Memory of the World (MOW) Programme. The official records of Tibet from the Yuan Dynasty (1304-1367) of China, from our institution, is a collection of 22 original documents of the Yuan Dynasty. They were registered in the first list of Chinese Archives and Documentary Heritage in 2002, and listed in the International Register of the MOW in 2013. These were very exciting and proud moments for us as archivists."

SOUNDBITE 5 (Chinese): TSERING DONDRUP, Deputy director of archives management department, Archives of Xizang Autonomous Region
"The preservation and management of archives are the foundation for other procedures. Only by doing a good job in archiving can we better study and further explore the history."
