A designer spent $20k transforming an old farmhouse into a "dollhouse"- adding $100k in value. "

Jonny Carmack, 31, bought the three-bedroom home in Danbury, Connecticut in October 2020 for $256k and knew it would be a "fixer-upper"."

He favours bright colours and created a different theme for each room in the house - opting for a pop art bathroom, a pink parlour for a dining room and a fruit room bedroom.

Jonny has spent $20k on the place transforming it into "a dream house" - by buying items on Facebook Marketplace and HomeGoods."

Since moving into the 1800s farmhouse with his partner, Mitchell Pozo, 30, a Visual Merchandiser, Jonny has created an ice cream themed bathroom, a bakery dining room and a fruit themed room.

Jonny, a small business owner, from Danbury, Connecticut, US, said: "My earliest memories of growing up I always leaned towards feminine in my style."

"I come from a blue-collar family, I had always wanted Barbie dolls and it was not widely accepted for me to have those interests."

"I remember being young and having to hide my toys knowing I wanted to live in a dollhouse one day."

"My favourite room in the house is my kitchen, I didn't think I would be able to make it any good."

"It has the best lighting in the house - I love spending time in there cooking and hosting."

Jonny moved into his house at the height of the pandemic, after living in New York,

because he wanted to escape the city.

When he bought the home he said it was crumbling and filled with mould.

He said: "It was the first and only house I toured - it is my first home."

"It's got three bedrooms and one-and-a-half bathrooms - it is the perfect size for me my partner."

"When I bought the house I knew I wanted to use it as a landing pad for my creativity."

"I was still a bit nervous as I didn't know how my family and friends would react."

Some of Jonny's second-hand items included a $50 Murano light, $1,000 bedroom set, a $900 Big Chill fridge and a $100 panther table.

Jonny said: "I love my Pink Panther table, I have named it Polly."

"I drove three hours there and back to Long Island to pick it up from a guy's attic."

"I had been wanting one for a while but online they were $1,500 so I thought I would put in the travel time and get this one."

Jonny has created a different theme for each room around the house - including a blue lounge, sea themed bedroom and indoor gay-bourhood.

He said: "Everyone loves the fruit room. In the US right now, food decor is very big."

"Because I call it the food room and market it as one, everyone loves being in there."

"When you're in there it looks like an outdoor space - it really draws people in."

"Upstairs I have an indoor neighbourhood, I call it the gay-bourhood."

"That was a huge project, I did that and people loved it."

"Outside of each room looks like a house - I wanted a neighbourhood style."

Jonny is content with how his house looks but has been "customising" his home to "push" his personality out there."

He said: "I knew what I wanted the themes of my home to be and now I have been fine-tuning them to push my personality out there more."

"I call my home a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community."

"I would love the entryway of my home to close off the rest of the world."

Since moving in, Jonny says he's added $100k in value to the property and only spent $20k renovating it.

He said: "My family will come over and be like 'what the hell did you do?'."

"My family is more conservative - they don't say anything rude but it is a non-reaction."

"My friends love it though, this last summer we watched the Barbie movie here."

"Also when we are out, people will approach me about the house and my friends get a little kick out of it."
