Preacher blocks pride march in the Philippines
A preacher blocked an LGBT pride march in the Philippines, sitting in the middle of the road and praying.
Footage shows the man holding a placard and speaking on his megaphone while pleading to god 'to heal these people' in Manila, the Philippines, on June 22.
He almost cried while saying: ‘Yahweh, Yahweh, Yeshua, have mercy on our country, the Philippines. Have mercy, please, god. Heal the hearts of these people, god.'
The man later tried to cause trouble among the event-goers, blocking them and had to be asked to leave by local officials.
Onlooker Rica Ibarat said: ‘It was my first time to join the Pride event. We saw a man repenting about sins then it rained. The show was also cancelled.'
Spanish trade developers introduced Christianity to the Philippines in the 16th century. The country remains a predominantly Christian nation, and the religious influence shapes various aspects of Filipino culture and society.
Traditional Christian values in the Philippines have contributed to conservative attitudes towards LGBT individuals. However, views are evolving, with growing acceptance, especially among younger generations and in urban areas.
