This is the amusing moment a husband found papaya fruits inside each other like Russian dolls.

Jocelyn Alcantara Lapurga and her family harvested the fruit in their backyard as one of the ingredients for a dish her parents were cooking in Agoo, La Union, the Philippines, on June 23.

Footage shows the father cutting the fruit and, to their surprise, finding another papaya inside.

He then cut it open again and saw a pale white fruit inside. This elicited amazement among the family.

Jocelyn said: 'My cousin told me that their papaya tree had borne fruit. The first fruit we opened has the same condition of the fruit in this video.'

This phenomenon is called internal proliferation, where a fruit develops inside another fruit.

It involves the development of additional carpels, the female reproductive structures of the flower, within the original fruit, resulting in the appearance of a smaller fruit inside the larger one.
