Espn leaked the MVP voting and we already know who’s going to be the NBA MVP.
Before diving into the results and revealing the winner, let me explain where this info comes from and why it’s 99% accurate.
Tim Bontemps is an ESPN analyst and every year, at different points of the season he does anonymous and informal polls among the media members who have votes, and gathers the results.
He would ask them how they feel about the MVP race early on around December, then around the All Star, and finally close to the end of the season.
This includes almost every single voter which makes this poll super reliable and relevant.
So, around Christmas, it’s interesting that Joel Embiid had a pretty sizable lead, and had he stayed healthy, I believe that he would have definitely won it back to back.
Then during the All Star break, with Embiid out, Nikola Jokic pulled ahead followed by SGA who jumped from the 4th spot right into a 2 man race against the Serbian.
Which brings us to the final poll of the season. What you’re about to see is 99% certain, so here it is.
Your 23-24 NBA Most valuable player is Nikola Jokic. You see that the lead is far too big, and 85 out of the 100 voters ranked him number 1, meaning that there would need to be some colossal change of events for voters to change their mind, and flip the order when they would officially fill their ballots.
But with Shai not even playing in the last 2 games, it’s more than safe to say that these results, at least for the winner, are final.
This would make Jokic only the 9th player in NBA history with 3 MVP awards, entering an elite company of NBA royalty.
I’m sure that he would be super hyped about this individual achievement as he always is.
Getting back to the list right here to focus on the rest of the group, I’m shocked that Luka was left out of the ballot 4 times. So he did not crack the top five in the eyes of 4 voters.
Similar thing with Giannis, he’s on 92 ballots, and 8 analysts did not have him in the MVP race.
