STORYLNE
Petra celebrated the world's first global vote for the New 7 Wonders of the World in a campaign organised by the Zurich-based New7Wonders Foundation.
Elected on 7 July 2007, by more than 100 million votes, the New 7 Wonders of the World are: Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Roman Colosseum in Italy, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu in Peru, Petra in Jordan and the Taj Mahal in India.
Commenting on the event, Jean Paul de la Fuente, Director of New7Wonders, which represents the official global authority for voting on the Wonders, said, "We see Petra as a key partner for many future developments that will help achieve the Wonder Effect in economic, brand and social outcomes, as the New7Wonders movement has already helped to achieve around the world".
Since 7 July 2007, Petra has been one of the new 7 Wonders of the Modern World. Its numerous buildings, whose facades are carved directly into the rock, form a unique monumental ensemble with more than two millennia of history.
