A mother cow and her calf wandered through a hospital's X-ray ward in India.

Footage shows the pair casually strolling along the hallway with busy doctors and nurses at the radiography department at Kupwara District Hospital in the Indian-controlled area of Jammu and Kashmir.

A man in the video joked: ‘This is a Kupwara District Hospital. Here, x-rays are performed on animals, not on humans. This is the x-ray room.'

Another man said: ‘Look, the animals have entered from this side, remove them here.'

Hospital security later arrived to evacuate the cows once they were reported. No one was hurt and the animals were safe.

In India, devout locals follow Hindu customs, with cows regarded as sacred animals that cannot be eaten or slaughtered once they have stopped producing milk. The majority of states ban the sale or slaughter of cows.

Instead of dealing with the economic burden of keeping their spent cattle, many farmers let the beasts roam the streets - leading to chaos when the animals become agitated and turn their fury on humans.
