France: Nearly Naked PETA France Activists Bodypaint in Flag Colors, Protest Animal Use in Fashion
Paris, France - July 22, 2024
In a colorful and striking protest, PETA France activists painted in the hues of various national flags gathered at Place de la Republique in Paris on July 22, ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games. Their message: a united stand against the exploitation of animals in fashion, particularly for fur, leather, and feathers.
Representing multiple nations, the nearly naked activists held signs proclaiming "United Against Cruelty to Animals" and "No Leather, Feathers, or Fur!" in different languages, aiming to draw global attention to the routine mistreatment of animals. This demonstration not only highlighted ethical concerns but also leveraged the Olympic spirit of peace and respect.
Mimi Bekhechi, PETA U.K. Vice President for Europe, emphasized the symbolic timing of the protest in Paris, calling on the fashion industry to abandon practices that harm animals. She pointed out the severe conditions endured by animals on fur farms and in the leather industry, where billions are raised in appalling conditions before facing brutal deaths.
The protest coincides with Paris' prominence as a fashion capital and follows other impactful actions by PETA France, including projecting messages against luxury fashion's use of wild-animal skins onto iconic city landmarks. As the world focuses on the Olympics, these activists aim to spark a broader conversation about humane treatment and ethical practices in fashion.
