Monkeys at a zoo in China have become a hit with visitors thanks to their uncanny resemblance with Squidward from the popular cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants.

The Proboscis monkeys at Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou, in Guangdong Province, have gained significant attention due to their distinctive noises and the sounds they make.

Described as having both 'ugly' and 'cute' characteristics, these monkeys are known for their long noses and unique behaviours, which include rhythmic swinging.

This has led locals to compare them to Squidward from the animated series 'SpongeBob SquarePants.'

The resemblance has captured the attention of both visitors to the zoo and people on social media, leading to a surge in popularity for the species.

The Chimelong Safari Park is notable for being the only zoo in China where proboscis monkeys(Nasalis larvatus) can be observed. This particular species is one of the largest monkey species native to Asia.

Since their successful introduction to the park, the Proboscis monkeys have been residing there for seven years, during which they have adapted to the environment and regularly engage with the public.

Their presence has contributed to the zoo's diversity and has attracted visitors interested in observing this unique species.
