Butte Valley, USA - July 24, 2024

In a heartwarming rescue effort amidst the chaos of the Cohasset wildfire, members of the Butte County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team successfully located and saved two adult Rottweilers and their puppies on July 24 evening.

Amid frantic evacuations in the remote area near Campbellville, a resident's truck, containing the dogs, became disabled and had to be left behind. Despite the challenging circumstances, responders received the truck's location from the owner, though reaching it was delayed due to the fire's intensity.

Yesterday, Trevor Skaggs, part of the BCSO Search and Rescue team, flew to the location aboard a BCSO helicopter piloted by Conner Smith. Upon arrival, Trevor sprinted 1.5 miles to reach the stranded dogs. Fortunately, he found the mother and her puppies alive but exhausted and desperately thirsty. Sadly, the puppies' father did not survive.

After hydrating the dogs and offering them nourishment from his provisions, Trevor managed to coax all five animals to follow him back 1.5 miles to the waiting helicopter. The mother and her puppies were swiftly transported to Chico Airport, where they are now under the care of the North Valley Animal Disaster Group.
