Pakistan - August 05, 2024

At least 22 people have died and dozens have been injured during the day on Sunday due to torrential rains that have caused widespread losses of property and infrastructure in several parts of Pakistan. The highest number of victims have been recorded in the regions of Baluchistan (twelve), in the southwest of the country; and Khyber Pashtunjua (nine), in the northwest. The rains have flooded rivers and landslides have occurred in the mountainous regions, according to the Pakistani television channel Geo. The storm has left at least 32 people injured and more than 260 have been damaged, of which 90 have been completely destroyed. Several roads and bridges have been affected, as well as crops and more than a hundred heads of cattle dead. Following the torrential rains, the National Disaster Management Authority has warned of the possibility of high and very high levels of flash flooding in Balochistan and southwestern Punjab in the coming days. The monsoon season has killed at least 30 people in Pakistan and the city of Lahore - the second most populous in the country, capital of Punjab - has witnessed almost 360 millimetres of rain, a record for the past 44 years.
