STORYLINE:
The Kandy Esala Perahera is one of the grandest Buddhist festivals in Sri Lanka, with a history of more than 1,000 years.
The festival is held in the Buddhist holy city of Kandy every July and August and lasts for more than ten days, attracting tens of thousands of spectators.
This year's festival is being held from August 10 to August 20. Elephants, dressed in costumes, carry a replica of the tooth relic of the Buddha and parade through the streets of Kandy from the Sri Dalada Maligawa (the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic).
Thousands of drummers, dancers, and acrobats perform as they walk, creating a spectacular scene.
