Israel: Israel exchanges heavy fire with Hezbollah, stirring anxiety among residents
Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel - August 25, 2024
Israeli and Hezbollah forces engaged in intense exchanges of fire early Sunday along the Israel-Lebanon border, stirring anxiety and fear among local residents in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Air defense sirens sounded in northern Israel on the day as Hezbollah launched large-scale attacks, and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant declared a 48-hour state of emergency.
Another local resident Simon shared his insights on the impact of the current situation on his life and work.
Another local named Paolina said the situation in recent days has posed serious challenges to ensuring her family's wellbeing and safety.

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Mayer, local resident (full name not given)(ending with shot 3):
"The feeling is not so good. We are living in a crazy world. We are afraid of what will happen at night. When we get up in the morning, the first thing I do is to check my cell phone to see if something happened in the night.";
3. Fountain;
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Simon, local resident (full name not given)(starting with shot 3):
"Well, as you can see, life carries on as usual. We didn't have any missiles falling on Tel Aviv. We had no alarms. Well, I worked as usual. I was in the office. But some people may be decided [not to work] because they don't have a shelter next to the office or they decided it was better not to go to work. But, apart from that everything is exactly as usual.";
5. Fountain;
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Paolina, local resident (full name not given)(starting with shot 5/partially overlaid with shot 7):
"I am feeling mostly not able to control my life, not able to schedule things. Everything is changing so fast. We kind of got used to living at this point like only now. But it makes me anxious and worried, especially because I have kids. So, I worry about them. I worry about kindergarten and schools and how they are going to work. And it just makes me feel and understand how terrible the conditions are in the north and south of this world for people who just don't have any ability to plan anything. I do think at some point there will be a war with Lebanon. But also we don't know when. Perhaps as the situation is getting worse and worse, it requires some kind of solution. And I'm afraid that on a political level it will not be enough. So, at some point I guess it will be a war as well.";
