The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), a Saudi Arabian government agency financing projects in developing countries, welcomes the opportunity to cooperate with China in the future, the agency's head has said.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): AHMED AQEEL AL-KHATEEB, Chairman of Board of Directors of Saudi Fund for Development
"In China, we started funding projects back in 2003. And we funded 18 projects worth more than 500 million dollars. We've been very happy and very successful with our projects in China. We are working with China now through the Asian Development Bank, but definitely, we would like to work jointly with China to expand our projects in any continent. Development is in great need by the third-world countries. They need airports, roads, schools, and they need access to good health care. And we all know that China has been contributing heavily in these sectors. We will be happy to work with China in the future in any of these sectors."

Al-Khateeb also highlighted China's significant contributions to Africa's development, noting his agency has observed Chinese-funded projects on the continent.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): AHMED AQEEL AL-KHATEEB, Chairman of Board of Directors of Saudi Fund for Development
"We are both active in Africa, and we have been looking into the projects funded by China, whether roads or railways or electricity or bridges, and so on. We look at the projects provided by China as complementary projects. And it is very important. We both should continue supporting Africa."
