Storm preparations from Cedar Key, Florida Thursday at 3 pm before the storm. Tropical Storm Helene formed in the northwestern Caribbean Sea on Tuesday morning, putting Florida on high alert for significant impacts this week. The storm, previously known as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, is expected to bring dangerous storm surges, heavy rainfall, and destructive hurricane-force winds. It is now the eighth named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) anticipates it will become a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) as it approaches Florida’s Big Bend region.
