Friday September 27, 2024 as Tropical Storm Helene pounds the Charlotte Metro area, fire crews were dispatched to a building collapse in the 2000 block of Poinsett Drive in an unincorporated part of Rock Hill, SC. As Newport Fire Department was responding, they received assistance from Rock Hill Fire Department due to the nature of the call. Two juveniles were able to escape the home to call 911. One adult was rescued and removed from the home upon arrival of the first fire crews. A second adult was heavily entrapped and underneath the tree. Rock Hill Fire requested assistance from Charlotte Fire's Urban Search and Rescue Teams. After close to an hour of working to stabilize the home, the second adult was removed from the damaged home. During the rescue attempt, two walls of the upstairs room collapsed outward and there were no injuries to any fire personnel. We were asked to leave the area by York County Sheriff's Office so the full rescue was not documented.
