Do magicians really have superpowers? There are quite a few members of The Magic Circle who think one of their late presidents, a legend in magic circles, just might - even a year after his death at the age of 97. At the society’s awards night at the Clapham Grand the inaugural David Berglas Award was about to be presented to Derren Brown the illusionist and mentalist who has always cited David as his inspiration. The audience watched a video of David performing sone of his stunts, including making a large table move and jump of its own accord. Then, as Marvin Berglas, son of David and the current president, ushered Brown on stage , one or the big round banqueting tables where bow-tied guests were gathered collapsed with a bang. Everyone at the table claimed that it just happened. Marvin said: “it could have been the weight of champagne but I like to think it was my father’s finale. I He was always one for the grand gesture”
